CER pays part of furnishings for Baghdad university library

April 2004 -

With the first gift from the Cultural Emergency Response (CER) fund, the reading room in the university library in Baghdad has been refurbished. The library was damaged during the war.

Cultural Emergency Response (CER) is a collective initiative of the Prince Claus Fund and the International Committee of the Blue Shields (ICBS), an organisation involved in the protection of cultural heritage. The decision to assist the reading room was made based on a report by Jean-Marie Arnoult about war damages to the archives and libraries in Iraq. Arnoult is Inspecteur Génèral des Bibliothèques in France. He was part of the Unesco delegation that visited Iraq in July 2003.

The CER funds were used to purchase tables, chairs and computer equipment.
